Alachua County 4-H Legacy Endowment
Supports the UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County 4-H Youth Development Program, with priority to award the Bill Brown Legacy Scholarship and Dr. Bobby Damron Family Legacy Scholarship, which both support participation in state and national 4-H programs.
Your gift in memory of William Lloyd “Bill” Brown Jr. will support Alachua County 4-H’ers participating for their first time in regional, state and national 4-H programs.
Bill graduated with his Master’s from the University of Georgia and served in the United States Coast Guard, where he was awarded the Helicopter Rescue Award. He settled in North Florida in 1975, initially living in Trenton and serving as an Extension Agent in Gilchrist County. In 1980, Bill and his family moved to Gainesville where he served as the Alachua County Extension Director, with an emphasis in row crops, until his retirement in 2007. Bill actively supported 4-H and youth programs, and was instrumental in the creation of the Alachua County Youth Fair & Livestock Show. He was involved with numerous community organizations and served on the Alachua County Farm Bureau board from 2007-2020.
