Dinesh O. Shah Gujarat Culture Program Endowment
Fund
Purpose
Actual Fund Purpose from Gift Agreement "The spendable income of the Fund shall be used exclusively to support the Suvarna D. Shah Poetry Festival every alternate year. The Donor or a member of the Donor’s family may request an advisory role to review the use of this Fund on an annual basis. It is the Donor’s wish that all the spendable income be used for the poetry event in the spring of every alternate year, to be known as the “Mrs. Suvarna D. Shah Gujarati Poetry Festival,” in honor of the Donor’s late wife. In the event the Center for Hindu Traditions is unable to facilitate the biennial poetry festival, the department should seek advice, input, and cooperation from The Gujarati Literary Academy of North America, Inc., a non-profit organization, regarding hosting this poetry festival in Florida or the New York/New Jersey area by inviting at least two poets from India and others from the United States depending upon the spendable funds available. Their airfare and accommodation expenses may be reimbursed by the Foundation, in accordance with University regulations. In addition, the visiting poets may be invited to UF in collaboration with the Gujarati Literary Academy. In the event it becomes impossible to use the Gift for the purpose set forth above, the Foundation will consult with the Donor, or the Donor’s son, Dr. Prerak D. Shah, or his assignee as to an alternate use of the Fund. Additional details are as follows "...As the endowment grows, spending may be expanded to bring child health advocacy guest lecturers to the College, as well as further other child health advocacy programs. If, in the best judgment of the Board of Directors of the Foundation, all or part of the Gift cannot be used in the manner described in this Agreement, the Board may use the Gift for other purposes, after consultation with the Donor if possible, as nearly aligned to the Donor’s original intent as the Board deems appropriate under the circumstances."
