Tarrant Organic Chemistry Fund

Fund Purpose
The income of the Fund will be used to: (a) support "The Tarrant Visiting Professorship in Organic Chemistry," including salary, travel and related expenses; (b) the unused balance from the given year, if any, will be used during the following year to support "The Tarrant Graduate Fellowship(s)" in Organic Chemistry; (c) the unused balance, if any, will then be used in a manner to be determined by the committee identified below, in a manner consistent with the intent of the donor. The Tarrant Visiting Professor shall be selected by the Chair of the Department of Chemistry, consistent with the recommendation of the Tarrant Fund selection committee. The selection committee shall be appointed by the Head of the Division of Organic Chemistry and composed of five faculty members from that Division. The Tarrant Visiting Professor shall be a distinguished academic or industrial chemist whose research specialty is some area of organic chemistry. It is the Donor's wish that the selection committee give precedence to non-North American candidates for the Tarrant Visiting Professor. Occupants of the Tarrant Visiting Professorship in Organic Chemistry will normally reside at the University of Florida for 12 weeks during either the fall or the spring semester during the year of their tenure, although the Committee shall have the prerogative to alter the length of stay or even to split the Professorship into two shorter term occupant, he or she will teach a special topics course in her or her area of specialization, while being available for consultation with the members of the faculty at the University of Florida. Finally, each Tarrant Visiting Professor shall receive a plaque commemorating his or her appointment and his or her name will be listed on a permanent plaque in the Chemistry Faculty Conference Room. A brochure or other public relations materials shall be prepared about the visiting professorship. If, in the opinion of the Board of Directors of the Foundation, all or part of the gift cannot be used in the manner herein described, the Board may use the gift for other purposes as nearly aligned to the Donor's original intent as the Board deems appropriate under the circumstances.
