Edward A. Proefke AGC Convention Fund
Additional details from the JULY1983 letter are as follows "… In the event that the President of the SCBA is not able to attend, preference for the alternate to be the President of the Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Lambda Chi. In the event neither is able to attend, I would like a selection made by the SCBA President. The SLX President, and the Director of the School of Building Construction jointly. In the even that the SCBA and the SLX should both be dissolved, I want the investment return of the Trust to be disbursed to the School of Building Construction for a student to attend the convention, and that student should be selected by three (3) faculty members, one being the Director."
This fund created by Edward A. Proefke, was established in 1983 for the purpose of supporting conference attendance for the President of Student Contractors and Builders Association in the College of Design, Construction and Planning.
Proefke was born January 31, 1932. He earned a bachelor’s degree in building construction in 1959 from the University of Florida. While at UF, he was a president of the Student Construction and Builders Association. He worked for Proefke Development, Inc. and founded his own construction company, Enterprising Building Corporation, in Dunedin, FL two years after graduating from UF. In 1986, Proefke was named a UF Distinguished Alumnus.
Proefke married Betty, and the couple has three children.
In 1982, the School of Building Construction recognized Proefke’s continued support and contributions by awarding him the first-annual Distinguished Builder award.
Currently, Proefke is a member of the board of directors of the Associated General Contractors of America and served as president of the Associated General Contractors of Mid-Florida and on the chapter’s board of directors. He is also a member of the American Institute of Contractors.
