William D. and Robbie F. Hedges Endowed Research Fund
Support research on teaching marginal learners. Research awards will be determined by a faculty committee appointed by the Dean of the College, with University faculty members within and outside the College. The committee shall approve research proposals, which must include a budget for approved research expenditures.
The research must focus on marginal learners. These learners are defined as those children, assuming the population arithmetic mean IQ is 100 and the standard deviation 15 who range in IQ between 70 and 85 with a standard error of 3. The research must focus on how the classroom teacher may more effectively assist these children and youth both in the nature of effective intervention strategies, the nature and type of curricular materials that are effective, and how these strategies and materials are to be employed.
As a secondary objective, income from the Fund may also be for expenses to bring a noted researcher to campus to speak to faculty and students regarding these marginal learners.
